Wondering what you think of the recent slew of MAGA regret videos out there now. They seem to generate a lot of sympathy, support and forgiveness. Personally, I cannot agree. I don't need to hear any excuses, explanations or rationalizations. The damage they have caused is unforgiveable. Is that too harsh? Glad they have come to sanity, but jeez, just do it quietly and make whatever amends you can, people.

I think people creating those videos may be important, but it's hard to trust these people. In general, I don't trust what people say: I trust what they do.

I used to work in domestic violence, and your advice echoes the recent trend in that field that urges family members of the victim to go no-contact with the abuser until the situation changes permanently for the better. They should no longer go along with the pretense that everything is "OK". That means that he (and I say "he" because that is usually the case) will no longer be allowed to attend holiday gatherings, birthdays etc. and will not be welcome in their homes until he either stops the abuse or the victim frees herself of him. NO MORE DENIAL.

Hey Anne, you raise a really good question. All I can tell you is that as a multiethnic, neurodivergent transgender person, I have had to cut off relationships with people in my life who continue to socialize with MAGA supporters—because they are supporting the regime, however indirectly. That’s a moral choice they’re making, and it’s heartbreaking one, because it shows me their comfort is worth more than my life and my family’s lives.

That's right. We need to be imposing costs on MAGA operatives, low level Trump officials, and others in Trump's "support network." Actual consequences for helping Trump destroy our democracy. Nothing violent or illegal - but public humiliation, social exclusion, the denial of career opportunities, etc. are all game. We need to make MAGA minions choose between their own well-being and Trump's.

Yes, there must be social ramifications for participating in this evil. Every person participating should picture themselves standing trial at the Hague for crimes against humanity.

Absolutely. There are seemingly no consequences for bad behavior anymore. If the "Me Too" movement could enforce some, then maybe "No MAGA" can, too.
